The Opportunity 

In this role, you will serve as the go‑to expert for process troubleshooting, product performance, and manufacturing optimization for our Colostrum sites—partnering closely with PSM, Operations, Engineering, Finance, R&D, and Quality teams to deliver strategic improvements.

 

You will lead efforts to boost throughput, yield, and product quality while identifying root causes, developing solutions, and implementing process enhancements. This role also supports new product development and commercial scaleups by coordinating technical trials, analyzing data, and ensuring successful plant integration.

 

Ideal candidates bring handson manufacturing experience, strong problemsolving skills and the ability to collaborate and influence across crossfunctional teams. This role is based in Phoenix, AZ, with the option to sit in Brookings, SD or Twin Falls, ID.

 

Essential Functions

  • Technical support and problem-solving on colostrum production and product performance issues in all three colostrum production plants.
  • Liaise with PSM, Ops, Engineering, Finance, R&D, etc. to drive strategic improvements across the three colostrum sites.
  • Lead process optimization to drive throughput, yield, and quality improvement in all three colostrum plants.
  • Coordinate with PSM on NPD for new and current product qualification and commercial scale-up to expand our core business and present innovative ideas to our customers to increase margin.
  • Work with plant management to identify process-related problems and root causes, with emphasis on providing solutions and improvements.
  • Implement, troubleshoot, and monitor plant processes, including innovations, cost reductions, yield, waste, and loss.
  • Liaise with production, R&D, and quality assurance/control to ensure common objectives are agreed and achieved.
  • Utilize statistical analysis to assist in resolving food chemistry and food microbiology issues.
  • Identify issues and conduct in-process research, including technical research to develop process innovations.
  • Interpret, provide statistical analysis of technical data, and create reports to drive solutions for business priorities.
  • Liaise with PSM, Engineering, Finance, etc, on applicable CAPEX project-related functions as needed. Assist in process design, project document review, Voice of the Customer, Success Criteria development, and other project-related areas.
  • Assist in CIP validations and in resolving plant sanitation issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and work with the controls team for automation and instrumentation to improve overall operational efficiency, promote quality, safety, and cost savings.
  • Ensure optimization of cleaning systems to minimize loss, improve quality, and overall control of chemical products and water.
  • Lead and support cost savings projects, including costs related to chemicals, water, time/hours, and energy saving projects, as part of overall CIP and sanitation costing.
  • Keep abreast of the latest manufacturing technologies, systems, and sanitation practices and provide recommendations.
  • Develop familiarity with ingredients/process aids and their functions.  Work with daily operations to optimize the usage of these ingredients.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams that evaluate and implement novel manufacturing technology and processes in commercial processes to increase process robustness.

The Skills you will bring to the team

  • Bachelor's degree in the engineering field with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a production, technical, or R&D environment required.
  • Dairy/Food Science experience strongly preferred  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Creativity, self-motivation, and innovation
  • Willingness and ability to participate in and lead team problem-solving activities
  • Ability to understand and speak in technical terms and be able to challenge current processes & theories while forming solutions in a practical and technical manner
  • Ability to travel to and conduct trials and provide technical support at different GN sites
