Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician – Flavors (Microthermics) supports the Flavors team by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microthermics equipment and conducting laboratory tests to support product development and quality initiatives. This role ensures accurate, timely execution of pilot-scale thermal processing runs, sample preparation, data collection, and documentation while maintaining a safe and organized lab environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate Microthermics processing equipment following established protocols and safety guidelines.

- Prepare batches, flavor systems, and raw materials for thermal processing evaluations.

- Conduct routine and non-routine laboratory tests to support flavor development and quality assessments.

- Monitor and record processing parameters such as temperature, flow rate, and pressure.

- Perform basic maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of Microthermics equipment.

- Document all test results, observations, and processing records accurately in internal databases or worksheets.

- Collaborate closely with Product Development, Quality, and Operations teams to support project timelines.

- Maintain inventory of lab supplies, ingredients, and reagents.

- Ensure lab cleanliness, organization, and adherence to all safety and GMP standards.

- Assist in preparing flavor samples for customer evaluation and internal sensory testing.

Qualifications & Experience

- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.

- 1–3 years of laboratory experience in food, beverage, or flavor manufacturing preferred.

- Experience operating Microthermics or thermal processing equipment strongly preferred.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to follow detailed procedures.

- Proficiency with data entry, recordkeeping, and basic computer applications (Excel, Word).

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a lab or pilot-plant setting.

Work Environment

This role works primarily in a laboratory and pilot plant environment with exposure to processing equipment, food ingredients, and routine laboratory chemicals. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
