PRP Sampling Technician

The Quality Control PRP sampling technician is responsible for sampling all incoming raw materials and maintaining raw material retains. In addition, the PRP tech will perform data entry, labeling, and will track raw material positive releases for materials received, as well as handle Certificate of Analysis (COA) receipt, review, and organization.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (not restrictive)

  • Verify identity, lot number, and sample incoming raw materials.
    1. Manage all aspects of the gold standard program.
    2. Verify incoming raw material identity using FT-IR, particle size, bench chemistry and other methods as needed.
    3. Coordinate 3rd party testing of raw materials using LIMS EDI or manual submission form.
    4. Assist in conducting Quality Control investigations including accessing retains.
  • Composite raw material samples for retention and analysis
  • Manage all aspects of the retain storage, content, and archiving.
    1. Label, organize and store retain samples as part of the record.
  • Perform data entry of raw material results, retains and contract lab testing information including sample submission information and results (as required)
    1. File sample submission forms and other documents
  • Maintain database and instrumentation records from FT-IR and particle size testing.
    1. Coordinate scheduling preventative maintenance and calibration of PRP instruments.
    2. Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for PRP functions.
  • Coordinate receipt and review of COA documents received per lot.
  • Update procurement department when COAs are missing or have incomplete results.
  • Track the progress of raw materials to ensure due date is met.
  • Track changes or reductions in inspection levels.
  • Coordinate sampling with receiving personnel to assure staging of materials.
  • Assure Master Sanitation Schedule is followed for the sampling room.
  • Provide limited back up coverage for Raw Material Team Lead.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Assist the QC technicians with release of warehouse ready blends (as needed)
  • Assist the QC technicians with the release of blending materials (as needed)

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education, Training:

High school diploma or G.E.D. required. College coursework, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (i.e., chemistry, biology, microbiology, science, food science)

Experience Required:

  • 1-3 years in work experience in similar position or quality control in a manufacturing, food, or nutraceutical company
  • Experience in Science or related field preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of laboratory and manufacturing safety protocols
  • Working knowledge of good laboratory and manufacturing practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include overtime when needed

Language, Computer &   Numeracy:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English required.
  • Computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with SAP is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
  • Must be able to pass respiratory exam and fit test.
  • Ability to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment including respirator (which requires minimal to no facial hair)

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e., office equipment, light traffic)
  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e., production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic)
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, allergens, fumes, and hazardous chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock
