MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).
Job Summary
This position will be for a Whey Production Level IV, whose primary roles will be; operator skill training, setting up/conducting training classes with relevant documentation. The individual will need to be flexible in this regard, along with having an in-depth knowledge of the whey plant equipment. The candidate will also need to have a good technical foundation in whey operations. Other responsibilities will include the ability to operate and lead any position within their area of responsibility.
Essential Functions
- Liaise with shift, review, and identify areas where training and instruction are needed.
- Meet with the Whey trainer weekly to go over the training needs and progress.
- Turn in a daily summary to the trainer summarizing the day’s progress or issues.
- Use the training material from the training department.
- Work with PM’s from the assigned shift in assisting or developing new SOP’s and reviewing existing SOP’s.
- Liaise with the trainer to identify a plan to help the operator’s progress.
- Coordinate and provide training for all employees.
- Ensure all training is sufficiently documented and the records filed in the training department.
- Provide feedback to and from employees as you develop them.
- Responsible for knowledge of every position in their area of responsibility.
- Responsible for the ability to run any computer system needed to operate production or CIP in any given area.
- Assist in communication between operators and management staff.
- Assist trainer with new team members and tracking current team member skill achievement.
- Help TL and PM address operational issues in each room.
- Ensures safe operating practices and helps in reporting and analyzing work-related injuries.
- Ensures that all GMP’s are followed.
- Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of MWC non-negotiables.
- Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
- Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

Additional Functions
- Fill in for operators as occasion may demand.
- Assist the trainer and/or TL with employee audits (performance evaluations).
- Participate on committees and company teams as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Operations experience or two to four years of related training experience.
- Forklift and Scissorlift Trained. Fall Arrest Trained.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety Department.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
- Involves moderate physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
- Should be able to judge distances and spatial relationships.
Typical Environmental Conditions
- May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e., manufacturing equipment).
- May work near mechanical moving parts and in hot temperatures.
Travel Requirements
- Minimal travel limited within the local area.
