The Opportunity 

We are seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer to oversee all controls and automation activities across our West Haven and Orange, CT facilities. This role involves providing technical leadership and 24/7 support for electrical and control systems. You'll work with a range of technologies from the 1980s to the latest instrumentation, PLCs, and HMI/SCADA systems. This permanent position will report to the Sr. Engineering & Maintenance Manager and the duties and skills include but are not limited to the following; 

 

  • Develop comprehensive plans for automation projects, including system architecture, risk assessment, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Promote best-in-class automation practices and innovative engineering/manufacturing disciplines.
  • Supervise and/or perform PLC and HMI installation, modification, design, and programming.
  • Lead and support electrical and controls aspects of capital projects, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Investigate and resolve controls-related issues, and perform repairs and upgrades on production equipment.
  • Stay updated on technology trends and research leading-edge technologies for business applications.
  • Collaborate with all levels of management and employees to gather information and provide implementation guidance.
  • Design and conduct plant trials to implement engineering changes and evaluate equipment productivity.

  

The Skills you will bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with Automation Direct and Allen-Bradley PLC ControlLogix Platform and development tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of SCADA/HMI design, configuration, programming, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with closed-loop controls and tuning.
  • Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 70.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
