Role Profile
This role has responsibility for managing all aspects of Quality Operations at the Drogheda Milk Plant site. This includes leading the site Quality team, on-going development of the plant’s Quality and Food Safety programs, management of the plant’s hygiene programs, and all quality assurance and quality control activities. This role is also responsible for the timely disposition, grading and release of all products manufactured at Drogheda. The role provides leadership to the plant Operations and Logistics and Engineering functions to ensure that our customer, Tirlán and Regulatory standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the site’s Quality Operations team in the management of the plant’s Food Safety, Quality control, Quality Assurance, hygiene, and product disposition processes;
  • Ensure the timely testing of raw materials, in- process and finished products vs. target, and efficiently manage the Quality Control and laboratory operations;
  • Ensure timely product disposition vs. targets, product trending, and compliance to labelling requirements;
  • Play a lead role among management peers in developing and sustaining a strong Quality and Food Safety culture for the site;
  • Implement the Quality Strategy in line with the Quality Management System;
  • Work as a member of the Plant Management Team to implement site wide KPIs relating to: Plant Efficiency, Throughput, Quality, Regulatory Compliance, Health and Safety, Continuous Improvement, Employee Engagement and Financial targets;
  • Support the site management team through the provision of quality data and by ensuring all process within the Quality Operations remit comply with the Quality Management System;
  • Play a key role in planning and participating in Plant Audits with customers, the Regulatory bodies such as DAFM and FSAI, and other third parties;
  • Performance manages the Plant Quality Operations team;
  • Work with the Site Head of Operations, Production and Engineering Managers and their teams to ensure that Quality Operations requirements and bulk fluid shipments to other sites are fully resourced at a shift level to deliver on the plant in- process sampling and testing schedules.
  • Maintain customer product specifications / certifications and deliver final product grading and disposition in a timely manner for all products and by-products;
  • Ensure employees are trained to the appropriate standard to carry out all their duties in Quality Operations;
  • As part of the wider Tirlán Quality community contribute to on-going development of best-in-class standards across the wider Tirlán organisation;
  • Evaluate, approve, and sign off on process changes and validations;
  • Maintain the sites in a state of inspection readiness, prepare and successfully host customer, regulatory and certification audits.  Run scheduled and unannounced audits. Track and report compliance to the output of those audits.

Key Requirements

  • A third level qualification in Dairy or Food Science, or equivalent;
  • Ideally 5+ years’ experience with strong quality and people management in the dairy industry, cheese industry, infant formula, or wider food industries. Experienced in Quality, Food Safety Management and adopting this expertise into a Right First-Time quality compliance program;
  • Understand key business drivers for the industry with previous experience in Food business regulations, Quality, and a proven track record in managing multiple projects;
  • Demonstrate high technical ability and attention to detail to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
