Role Profile

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Head of Tax is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the tax planning strategy, increasing awareness of tax threats, identifying risks and opportunities to meet the current and future tax requirements for Tirlán.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage the tax planning strategy, increasing awareness of tax threats, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor compliance with tax policies, processes and procedures across Tirlán.
  • Maintain an oversight role in compliance taxes (VAT, RCT, Payroll taxes, PSWT & CIS).
  • Develop and maintain a centre of technical tax expertise, in particular:
    • Determine the appropriate group tax treatment/policy in conjunction with the Business,
    • Ensure appropriate governance structures are in place for all tax decisions/policies as adherence to a defined process applies - tax sub-forum & forums,
    • Manage pre-year end sign off with auditors and tax compliance advisors,
    • Keep abreast of new tax legislation and initiatives,
    • Create a tax database.
  • Centrally co-ordinate obtaining tax advice from external tax advisors to ensure a uniform, efficient and cost effective approach across the group.
  • Lead the interaction with the Revenue Commissioners and Departments, developing and maintaining a constructive relationship with same.
  • Oversee the process and review of corporation and deferred tax provisions for statutory financial statements, budgets, forecasts, corporate business plans.
  • Oversee the process and review of corporation tax returns for filing with the Revenue Commissioners, including preparation of group relief.
  • Act as a driving force to ensure the development and implementation of best practice taxation processes and systems.
  • Provide tax advice on a wide range of projects and planning opportunities in order to optimise the tax position of the Group.
  • Provide appropriate support/advisory/training to all areas of the business on tax related matters including researching and resolving technical queries from the business. This will involve developing and maintaining effective and constructive working relationships within the Business including with HR, finance, procurement, supply chain, customer support and R&D functions.
  • Keep abreast of tax developments nationally and internationally, and particularly how such may impact Tirlán.
  • Oversee any periodic reviews of different tax areas.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

Key Requirements

  • AITI Qualified with a minimum of 8 years’ experience of working in a large complex organisation
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA),
  • Have strong exposure to all areas of taxation including corporation tax, deferred tax, VAT, RCT, PSWT, CIS & Payroll taxes,
  • Have thorough knowledge of Irish and UK tax legislation and experience of dealing with Tax authorities across other regions.
  • Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementing solutions
  • An ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and analytical capabilities with attention to detail, high levels of integrity and professionalism at all times, with a proven ability to multitask
  • Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others 
  • Ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including the ability to distil complex tax legislation into meaningful advice.
