The Opportunity 
Glanbia plc has set out an ambitious strategy to address climate change and other material environmental challenges through a comprehensive programme addressing carbon, water, waste, packaging, biodiversity and other material impacts.  Aligned to the Paris Agreement ambition, Glanbia will progressively invest in renewable energy, resource efficiency and impacts reductions to 2030 within direct operations as well as promote sustainable solutions in its value chain. Glanbia also plans to help address wider systemic challenges such as building a low-carbon circular economy.

 

Reporting to the Sustainability Services Senior Manager, the following are the key responsibilities of the Sustainability Manager:
•    Manage sustainability programmes addressing Glanbia’s material topics, including assessing environmental impacts of the business, identifying related gaps and improvement opportunities, and developing action plans on the  above
•    Contribute to developing environmental sustainability roadmaps and target setting under Glanbia Pure Food Pure Planet strategy
•    Manage complex environmental initiatives involving external and internal stakeholders, experts, and consultants
•    Work closely with Glanbia Business Units, IT & Systems team, Business Intelligence & Data Analytics team to ensure robust sustainability data management and insights to inform decision making
•    Support Corporate Communications team in  environmental sustainability communications for external and internal audiences
•    Collaborate with ESG Governance and reporting team to ensure accurate and timely environmental data disclosures and audits/assurance
•    Provide guidance to the Group and Business Units teams on such topics as GHG accounting, food waste accounting, renewable energy accounting, and other mandatory and voluntary sustainability accounting requirements

 

The Sustainability Programs Manager will demonstrate:
•    Experience in environmental sustainability management, preferably in a publicly traded company
•    Understanding of emerging environmental sustainability policies, standards and best practice 
•    Knowledge of sustainability accounting and data management. Experience in working with SBTi and GHG Protocol requirements, CDP, SDP, GRI disclosures would be an advantage
•    Good leadership and change management skills, ability to orchestrate work of cross-functional teams
•    Understanding of nutrition industry environmental impacts, including the challenges and opportunities of dairy processing and agricultural supply chains
•    Excellent communications skills, ability to act as sustainability champion internally and externally
•    Relevant third level qualifications, ideally with post graduate training / development in sustainability matters
