Accounting Assistant

MWC is a state-of-the-art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).
Job Summary
Responsible for reconciling production, tracking ingredient/packaging usage, preparing weekly production reports, reconciling physical inventories, and reconciling petty cash. The person in this role will also be responsible for reconciling quantities for all milk components used in the production process.
Functions
- Reconcile production daily, weekly, and monthly
- Prepare weekly production reports
- Perform monthly milk reconciliations and review settlement agreements with DFA.
- Assist with milk reporting and analysis
- Reconcile and maintain petty cash
- Validate physical plant inventories against SAP weekly.
- Participate in the monthly and year-end closing process
- Review weekly and monthly general ledger cost areas and prepare correcting journal entries as directed.
- Take minutes for meetings as assigned.
- Act as the receptionist, including greeting visitors, and distributing mail, as assigned.
- Assist with plant annual planning processes, including preparation of variance analysis, as directed.
- Assist with standardization of reporting and analysis across manufacturing locations, as directed.
- Identify opportunities and recommend process improvements/standardization; manage projects as assigned
- Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
- Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food, and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Requires an Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of one-year related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to your supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through the example of sharing knowledge/skills.
