The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to join our team and drive cross-functional projects with Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality and Product Development. This role is pivotal in optimizing packaging solutions and ensuring the product protection through innovative approaches. This permanent position will report to the Packaging & Equipment Engineering Director and duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Project Management: Lead packaging projects to align with business objectives and ensure timely product launches.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Influence and negotiate with team members to implement optimal packaging solutions.
- Specification Management: Create and maintain packaging specifications, understanding the relationship between package, product, and process.
- Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with vendors to identify and implement improvements in packaging materials and equipment.
- Financial Planning: Prepare CAPEX forecasts and cash flow estimates for packaging projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement strategies.
- Technical Guidance: Provide training and technical direction to Packaging Engineers.
- Innovation: Develop new packaging technologies and troubleshoot issues during line trials and package testing.
- Experimental Design: Formulate and execute complex experimental designs and develop implementation plans for moderate to high-risk projects.
- Decision Making: Make recommendations on material changes with limited guidance. Troubleshoot and resolve issues during packaging trials. Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives.
The Skills you will bring to the team
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a materials-based program required; Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging strongly preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years in Packaging R&D, Operations, or related fields. Experience in food or dairy packaging is a plus.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize your deep analytical skills and technical knowledge in packaging materials, processes, systems, and equipment interfaces.
- Materials Knowledge: Apply your expertise in flexible films, rigid plastics, corrugated materials, and decorating technologies to optimize packaging solutions.
- Project Implementation: Develop and execute implementation plans for low to moderate risk projects using sound technical methodologies.
- Leadership: Demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills to drive key programs and projects forward.
- Innovation: Be a self-starter who can drive innovative technical solutions and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Software Proficiency: Use your proficiency in pallet programs (TOPPS or CAPE), specification database management, and MS Office software to enhance project efficiency.
