Job Summary
The Application Scientist will be responsible for researching projects including product development, process enhancement and strong linkage to customers for technical support.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•    Work independently to develop a wide variety of commercially-viable food and supplement applications including nutritional bars, beverages, fresh dairy, bakery, snacks, confectionary etc., utilizing Glanbia’s full product portfolio.
•    Support Sales and business development teams frequently for customer support and visits to customers.  
•    Deliver technical presentations at conferences, meetings, trade shows, and customer visits in English and Japanese.
•    Educate sales force in both formal and informal training, particularly in new products that are being commercialized.
•    Plan and design robust experiments that can be statistically analyzed and stand up under scientific scrutiny.
•    Work directly with customers both on and off site, using the GN collaborative model.  
•    Ability to support customers from bench top development and formulation through plant trials and commercialization.
•    Develop new food products consistent with Japan’s food regulations for safety and quality
•    Source raw materials and build localized vendor/distributor network.
•    Test new products for flavor, texture, color, nutritional content and adherence to government and industry standards.
•    Write reports in a clear, concise and meaningful way including interpretation of scientific data.
•    Remain current on industry trends, Japanese market trends and new product launches.

 

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
•    Perform other duties as assigned.
•    Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. 
•    Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
•    Master of Science degree (M. S.) or equivalent; or a B. S. degree with minimum of seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Proficient in both English and Japanese
•    Ability to work independently
•    Ability to synthesize new ideas and methods from reading and analyzing common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
•    Ability to present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
•    Proficient computer skills that allow analysis and interpretation of scientific data, graphics, statistical analysis and preparation of publication quality manuscripts. 
•    Must possess excellent documentation and record keeping skills.     •    Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Must have in depth knowledge of instruments and pilot processing equipment
•    Experience with formulating a wide range of food products is preferred, including successful development and commercialization of such products, with a strong understanding of proteins, stabilizers system, sweeteners, fiber, flavor and starch, etc. 
•    Understanding how different ingredients interact during processing to form desirable texture and flavor in finished food products.
