Quality Assurance Lab Manager - 2nd Shift

General Summary: Directly manages Lab Techs related to laboratory functions.

Note: Position is 2nd Shift.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for Good Lab Practices.
  • Write, approve, implement and audit all laboratory testing protocols.
  • Maintain and update procedures for laboratory quality manual.
  • Validate all testing procedures.
  • Responsible for the direct reporting of lab technicians.
  • Schedule lab technicians to assignments/day/shifts.
  • Audit all paperwork completed by lab technicians.
  • Coordinate microbiological analysis of products submitted for inside & outside testing. Follow-up on positive results.
  • Instrumental in the implementation and training of new and existing procedures.
  • Participate in customer/consumer complaints.
  • Provide direction in raw material and packaging testing.
  • Audit 3rd Party Laboratories per procedure.
  • Review and approve testing procedures for additional ON facilities.
  • Travel not to exceed 10%
  • Conduct trend analysis of all testing performed.
  • Insure adequate training for all subordinates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Advanced knowledge of CFRs, GLP, laboratory equipment validation, and laboratory equipment protocol writing.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Management System requirements
  • Strong managerial and analytical ability to solve all analytical troubleshooting.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Very knowledgeable in ICP-MS, UPLC, HPLC, GC, Method development/ Method validation/Method transfer/ Writing test methods and procedures.
  • Must be able to drive continuous improvement on present lab practices and test methods; research, validate and implement new test methods to bring more testing in-house and ultimately reduce 3rd party lab costs.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, MS Office programs



  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in science related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 5 – 8 years experience in food manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years lab experience.
  • Minimum 8 years above supervisory experience.
