An opportunity has arisen within the Quality department of Glanbia Ingredients Ireland for a 12 month contract QC Microbiology Manager to cover maternity leave.

This position provides an exciting career opportunity for a qualified candidate who is interested in being part of a growing quality team and business.

Reporting to the Head of Quality Ballyragget, the role will have responsibility for managing the Microbiology QC function and its team of Analysts and will oversee method development and validation activities. You will also optimise the analytical capability of the laboratory to ensure that all products are released meeting customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the lab team to optimise their performance through coaching, performance development and training.
  • Ensure daily and weekly lab work schedules are completed efficiently so that all test samples are analysed and released in a timely manner.
  • Track Lab KPI’s and lead regular lab team performance reviews to ensure continued improvement and focus on optimum performance to meet business and customer requirements.
  • Proactively improve methods as part of Glanbia Performance System in line and ahead of industry best practice.
  • Work closely with relevant site stakeholders including Operations, R&D, Supply Chain and Commercial staff, to problem-solve lab- related quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance to current laboratory quality system accreditation.
  • Manage customer and Regulatory audits within the laboratories.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the SAP QM system.
  • Manage Laboratory procurement and budget.
  • Change Control co-ordinator for product, packaging and labelling specifications.
  • Development projects including ISO 17025, LIMS, new customer requirements.
  • It is the responsibility of all managers to manage health, safety and loss control in their area of responsibility in order to comply with the Glanbia Risk Management Standard requirements. 
  • We must comply with statutory regulations and Group policy on health & safety.


Role Requirements

  • Minimum Degree in Food Science or equivalent, with relevant work experience in Microbiology
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in leading and managing the performance of a team, preferably in a Food, Pharma, Dairy or Beverage Laboratory environment, is a strong advantage
  • Proven knowledge of quality systems and standards, Food microbiology methods, problem-solving, analytical lab validation and Lean
  • Demonstrate strong technical ability, problem-solving and attention to detail to do the job at a high level of accomplishment
  • Possess motivational skills, oriented towards encouraging people’s best performance possible
  • Team player with a proven ability to build cross functional relationships
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office suite & a working knowledge of SAP is desirable
  • Driven and motivated with ability to work on own initiative
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SAP QM and LIMS is desirable
