The Transport Planner reports to the Transport Planning Manager and is responsible for creating optimal transport plans servicing the requirements laid out by the Supply Chain planning function in relation to raw materials, inter site movements, and route to market on the Island of Ireland. 

Your core responsibility will be to manage the trolley network for our Consumer Foods category and you will also work as part of a large Transport Planning team which has responsibility for an array of different transport movements and assets.

Working to a JIT (Just In Time) model, delivering cost effective, service orientated plans with cost and cross utilisation optimised. This is a permanent role based in Co. Kilkenny with a requirement to work across multiple production and distribution sites as required.  Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will be exposed to a dynamic and energetic environment in a FMCG business.



Key Responsibilities

  • Create, design and cost optimal transport plans for all collections, deliveries and inter site movements on a daily basis. 
  • Analysing trends and business demands to project daily/weekly requirements to support the three business categories. 
  • Maintain and develop a high standard of service and relationships in the most cost effective and operationally efficient manner.
  • Engage with production plants, depots, hauliers, suppliers and customers ensuring quality of service and managing any complaints or service issues/requests that might arise.
  • Manage performance in relation to the ABP in the format of KPI’s and planned versus actual reports.
  • Maintain the detail and integrity of all movements’ information via the GI operating IT systems.  
  • Liaise and agree with plant / depot personnel and the planning team, the most appropriate intake / out-take profile. 
  • In conjunction with the Transport Co-ordination team ensure the utilisation and available time of all transport fleet is maximised. 
  • Work closely with the Transport Planning Manager, constantly striving to develop and improve the collection and delivery process, cost and systems.
  • Ensuring all documentation and administration is completed to the highest standard.  
  • Be an effective agent in the 3M process, striving to implement and learn GPS (Glanbia Performance Systems) tools where appropriate to enhance the services and processes.


Key Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in Transport/Logistic role in a FMCG company.
  • Strong communication is a must with ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • A strong aptitude for Logistics IT systems and innovation of intuitive user interfaces
  • Must be comfortable with IT systems including excel and transport specific platforms and be able to use these systems to drive performance and assist with problem solving.
  • Results driven, and ability to adapt to a fast moving business environment.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations through to successful, agreeable conclusions
