The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated professional to manage all aspects of Food Safety and Quality in our nutritional premix facility in Carlsbad, CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, authoring, and developing Food Safety and Quality processes as they relate to manufacturing and Quality Assurance (QA). This role includes responsibility for the QC laboratory, product release, and conducting food safety and quality-related audits with regulatory authorities, customers, and corporate stakeholders. This permanent position will report to the Quality Assurance Director – Speciality Operations and duties include but are not limited to the following; 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain SQF, NOP (organic), and NSF DS GMP Certification, ensuring compliance with SQF, NSF, FDA, customer, and other applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to resolve quality issues and drive quality improvement throughout the facility.
  • Conduct quality investigations, determine the disposition of raw material or finished product, and communicate with various departments, customers, and vendors.
  • Plan and apportion work among employees; determine types of equipment to be used in performing work, or materials.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager and site leadership teams to evaluate, troubleshoot, and oversee any issues that may arise.
  • Perform root cause analysis and CAPAs around product defects.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all employees through direct and indirect leadership and coaching.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 3-5 years related experience. Understanding of regulatory compliance with cGMP, GRAS, and HAACP.
  • PCQI certified and familiar with GFSI standards.
  • Experience with writing and maintaining HACCPs, SOPs, SSOPs, and GMPs.
  • Experience with SAP or similar is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and delegate assignments to others.

This range may not be applicable to other locations. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range.  The annual salary for California-based employees for this role is $120,000 - $145,000.
