Job Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing a corporate environmental program that leverages Glanbia Group’s approach to water, waste, CO2 and energy resulting in strong financial performance and regulatory compliance for the GN business.


Oversees environmental and sustainability projects to ensure that the GN facilities are serving the needs of the Company for environmental stewardship.  Partners with all of the GN facilities to create and drive towards the agreed environmental and sustainability goals.


Essential Functions

  • Oversee the management of the entire GN Environmental program including a 5 year strategy
  • Directs the environmental projects for GN manufacturing plants and provides support to those teams.
  • Serves as the primary GN environmental resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects for environmental initiatives.
  • Establish and implement metrics (water, waste, CO2, energy) for each site to monitor system effectiveness and to enable plants to make sound environmental decisions.
  • Provide oversight and assistance to sites on issues such as environmental incidents or permit violations.  Oversee investigation and mitigation of the issues, as well as any negotiations and correspondence with Regulatory Agencies.
  • Interact with internal and external customers to identify opportunities to improve GN’s environmental approach and provide feedback to Operations, Quality and Tech Services.
  • Report to management on environmental issues, trends and losses.
  • Support plants as needed with internal and external Environmental and Sustainability audits to verify performance and ensure timely CAPA.
  • Work collaboratively with local EHS Coordinators at each GN site that are accountable for the local implementation and performance of all required Environmental Programs.
  • Serve as the information owner for regulatory compliance, such as inquiries related to EPA and state DEQ regulations, Clean Water Act, etc.
  • Oversees training to ensure proper introduction to environmental and sustainbility expectations.
  • Uphold the culture of Glanbia non-negotiables and living our values and utilizes GPS processes to drive to zero losses.
  • Ensure GN alignment with Group Environmental and Sustainability goals and objectives through representation on the Group Environmental Leadership Team (ELT)
  • Support on-going integration and performance of web-based Environmental Data Management Systems:  Intelex and Alchemy across all GN sites
  • Maintain necessary professional certifications (e.g. Registered Environmental Manager) and training requirements

Additional Functions

  • Oversee the Land Application sites in Idaho and collaborate with the Gooding and Richfield plant managers on waste water and water usage
  • Support Group efforts to develop an end-to-end approach on Carbon impact of GN’s operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • BS / BA in Manufacturing, Engineering or Biological Sciences.
  • 10+ years experience in Environmental program implementation and management with 5 years in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with application of EPA/DEQ best practices with a proven track record of business performance improvement.
  • Experience in designing and implementing environmental systems/checklists.


  • Extensive knowledge of Environmental regulations within the US and state regulations as required based on GN operation locations.
  • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong computer skills including environmental applications, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Training/experience in FMEA- Failure Mode Effect Analysis
  • Participation in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through examples and sharing of knowledge and skills

Travel Requirements

    • Minimal overnight travel (up to 30%) by land and/or air.
