Job Summary

To manage health and safety, environmental, and security  policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with all environmentally related laws, regulations and statutes.

Essential Functions

  • Help assist in ensuring overall compliance with all environmental laws, standards, and regulations, including existing and pending site permits (CAA, NPDES, Local Ordinances, etc.) by working with facilities and Department of Environment Health and Safety.
  • Review upcoming regulations for applicability and effect on the facility.
  • Assist in the coordination/management of Federal, State, and Local agency inspections.
  • Prepare permit modifications as needed.
  • Manage compliance projects as needed.
  • Develop all reports required by permits including SARA 312, SARA 313, CAA, CWA, RCRA, and Local Ordinances.
  • Development of routine and non-routine correspondence to Federal, State, and Local Environmental Agencies.
  • Responsible for ensuring all waste generated from the facility is packaged, handled, transported, disposed of, and tracked in a manner that meets and/or exceeds Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Oversee security program and monitor and delegate assignments as appropriate.
  • Develop and manage security throughout the facility.
  • Ensure all employees are provided proper and adequate training where required. 
  • Develop Employee Return to Work Program
  • Prepare for Annual GRMS Audit
  • Participating in the setting of clear expectations and direction for the Environmental, Health and Safety Department, specifically in terms of industrial hygiene and security initiatives and goals.
  • Correspond and work with local, state and federal agencies as well as applicable community groups to develop positive relationships.
  • May store and retrieve statistical data.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health  Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years rated experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret industrial hygiene testing in a plant environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex testing procedures to employees and with appropriate outside entities.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety Department.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e. manufacturing equipment).
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, poor lighting, and/or above ground with a danger of fall.
  • May be exposed to air-contamination, toxic chemicals, wet/humid environment, extreme heat (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions.


Travel Requirements

    • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
