Job Summary:

The Category Manager will be responsible for managing and driving strategic sourcing and spend analysis initiatives for assigned categories and projects within the Procurement Department at the local or regional level.  This role will work closely with business unit stakeholders, multi-functional teams, and finance to analyze, develop, and drive category specific sourcing initiatives to meet and exceed business metrics in terms of cost, quality, service, and delivery.


Essential Functions:

Category Management:

  • Develop collaborative relationships with business stakeholders to define clear business needs that drive both immediate and sustained benefits related to spend analysis, cost savings, operational efficiencies, and supplier performance reviews and improvements
  • Develop comprehensive category strategy(ies) (refreshed annually) cost savings, rebates, and risk mitigation
  • Lead the development and execution of all sourcing-related activities ensuring effective implementation
  • Conduct supplier business reviews at applicable intervals using key performance indicators and  data analytics
    Commercial Negotiations:
  • Create negotiation plans per project with clarity of required and desired outcomes
  • Proactively establish and maintain relationship with Legal to ensure all contractual terms and conditions are formally reviewed, approved, and remain compliant
  • Lead negotiation of agreements and/or statements of work between GPN and suppliers
  • Manage supplier payment terms/invoice resolution in adherence with policy
  • Analyze large data sets from SAP, Business Objects, and Ariba to extract pertinent information in support of decision making and leveraging with global counterparts
  • Analyze pricing proposals, financial reports, and other data to validate supplier pricing and capabilities
  • Participate in continuous improvement and innovation by leveraging business and industry intelligence
    Customer Service:
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach in delivering business outcomes
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Basic information of the position
  • Knowledge of  procurement and operation management best practices and ability to demonstrate
  • Knowledge of current industry/supplier trends, risks, and benefits in both domestic and global markets as applicable
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and warehouse procedures and requirements for all procured items as well as related quality and technical specifications
  • Strong understanding of legal agreement language
  • Superior analytic skills to anticipate manufacturing requirements and develop contingency plans that eliminate or reduce disruption to operations
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP, Business Objects, and Ariba preferred. JDA for raw materials and packaging preferred.

  Decision Making/ Problem Solving:

  1. Perform due diligence to determine categories and potential suppliers requiring strategic sourcing.
  2. Develop comprehensive strategic sourcing plan by category using data analytics and market intelligence.
  3. Negotiate agreements, statements of work, and/or terms and conditions between GPN and suppliers
  4. Second sourcing determination and qualification for raw materials and packaging.                     



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or related field required.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a high volume, high growth environment strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, or commensurate experience.
  • CPIM, CPM, CPSM certification a plus
  • Food manufacturing industry experience a plus
