Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Global Supplier Quality, the Supplier Quality Manager will be responsible for the overall supplier and related materials qualification program.  They will conduct risk-based assessments to actively identify and mitigate quality and food safety risks for GPN and ensure compliance to company, customer, regulatory and other requirements while fostering a quality culture.  As an experienced supplier management professional, the Supplier Quality Manger will lead activities to monitor the performance of suppliers through direct auditing and document review to ensure appropriate approval and ongoing oversight of suppliers and related materials.


Essential Functions


  • Execute Raw Material and Supplier Onboarding and Qualification Process.
  • Manage the supplier and related material risk assessment process to identify and prioritize supplier verification requirements based on performance, product risk and quality/food safety system document review.
  • Perform initial and routine quality and food safety audits of suppliers and manage the corrective action process.
  • Apply Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles to identify food safety hazards and provide solutions to the business to mitigate risks through a “preventive” approach.
  • Manage the Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and communicate the impact on Supplier Quality activities.
  • Work cross functionally with R&D Technical Services to create and update specifications.
  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Perform and execute risk management activities as it pertains to material and write supply chain preventive control plans when there is a reasonable/foreseeable hazard.
  • Interface with client Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain subject matter experts on a routine basis.
  • Assess Quality Systems for continuous improvement and oversee implementation of improvement activities.
  • Participate in out-of-specification (OOS) investigation activities between in-house Laboratory, R&D, Regulatory, and Legal departments to determine proper disposition for raw materials.
  • Actively communicate relevant information regarding trends, data, needs, non-compliances, internal and external audits, surveys, etc.
  • Act as a QA department representative on projects, work groups, or continuous improvement teams as required.
  • Assist in the overall implementation of standardized Food Safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO, NSF, Organic, etc.)
  • Support on-site and virtual audits conducted by external providers including state and federal FDA inspections.
  • Oversee and motivate team members to create an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages bonding of team members, and demonstrates flexibility.
  • Demonstrate conflict management skills through effective communication, emotional intelligence, and creative problem solving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements


  • Knowledge of cGMPs, HACCP, HARPC and 21CFR 117 and 111 regulatory requirements
  • High level of technical expertise, ownership, and practical knowledge of QA/regulatory programs
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong Auditing experience
  • Knowledge or certification in ISO 22000, NSF, or other certifying bodies
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and other MS Office programs
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Data collection, management, and analytical skills
  • Strong analytical and fact-based problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Travel required – estimated 20-30% of time, domestic and international



Decision Making/Problem Solving

  • Conduct analysis investigations regarding Food Safety and Quality issues and determine appropriate Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Identify quality issues and effectively and proactively resolve them in a diplomatic and collaborative manner.
  • Perform appropriate onboarding qualification evaluations prior to assigning raw material and facility dispositions.

  • Experience in the food industry, particularly with health/supplement/nutritional food
  • Knowledge and experience regarding Whey Protein products is preferred.
  • Experience with Standards of Procedure (development, writing, implementation and education)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases including programming
  • Specialized training in: PCQI & HACCP
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of Quality Assurance
  • Experience with implementation of corrective action programs
