Laboratory Technician I R&D

Job Summary 

This position will provide laboratory bench-top chemical testing of R&D products for proximate, minerals, functionality, protein profiles, amino acids, HPLC, and other tests. 


Essential Functions 

  • Laboratory testing and analysis of R&D products for proximate, minerals, functionality, protein profiles, amino acids, HPLC, and other tests. 

  • Carefully collect and document all raw data and results. Report results on reports. 

  • Provide input, observations, and recommendations for improved testing, efficiency of testing and function of the analytical laboratory. 

  • Maintain operations of the analytical lab including keeping lab area and equipment clean and operational according to cleaning and operational instructions. 

  • Follow analytical procedures with exactness, timeliness, and accuracy. 

  • Maintain inventory of needed supplies and ingredients and procure same as required. 

  • Work courteously and tactfully with R&D team, laboratory clients, the public, and other employees. 

  • Work independently, complete work assignments on time and adjust priorities as required. 

  • Be self-starting and motivated in learning new laboratory tasks. 

  • Be able to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting measures and coordinate with vendor support if needed. 

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 





Education, Training:  

  • Must possess any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school and two years of experience in a food testing laboratory, associate's degree with focus on lab science, or four years of laboratory testing experience. 

  • The candidate must be energetic and possess good report writing, analytical and communication skills.   

  • Ability to read and write instructions in English. 


Experience Required: 

  • Previous lab experience is preferred but not required. 


Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: 

  • Ability to operate, or learn to operate, necessary equipment 

  • Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality. 

  • Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed. 


Language, Computer & Numeracy: 

  • The candidate should have experience using Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.

Physical Requirements 

  • Regularly involves talking or listening. 

  • Frequently involves standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, and the use of hands to fingers

  • Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing. 

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. 

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers. 

  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.  

  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors. 


Typical Environmental Conditions 

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic). 

  • May be exposed to intense heat, and fumes and toxic chemicals. 

  • May be exposed to disagreeable odors. 


Travel Requirements 

  •  Minimal travel limited within the local area.
