JOB SUMMARY 

 

This position is accountable for building, leading and developing a maintenance team and ensuring an efficient, high quality, cost effective operating facility. Responsibilities include development and implementation of preventative maintenance program, identification & stocking of critical spare parts, , responsive to mechanical failures in a timely manner, works closely with management team on projects to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost. Develop skills and abilities of assigned staff and proactively make recommendations.  Candidate must be a hands on manager when required.  Will ensure all tasks are performed while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company. Act as the voice and provide the vison for the department. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for all facility maintenance to include: equipment preventive maintenance, work order program, spare parts stocking,  coordination of work with the manufacturing team, providing analysis on equipment failures and enhancements.
  • Managing a maintenance team to include creating development plans to enhance skills of maintenance team and developing long term training program.
  • Responsible for plant machinery and equipment such as mixers, conveyors, compressor system, mills, shakers, packaging systems, pumps, fluid beds, belt dryers, HVAC, rollup doors, MHE, and other miscellaneous repairs as needed. 
  • Responsible for control devices such as PLC, VFD, safety curtains, switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, motor starters, etc. as needed.
  • Responsible and accountable for the departmental compliance with policies and procedures, internal and external regulatory requirements set by EPA, FDA, OSHA, etc.
  • Food Safety: Responsible for ensuring maintenance program is followed according to SOPs, GFSI and any other food safety initiatives adopted by the Company.
  • Food Safety: Member of the HACCP team and participate in food safety meetings.
  • Enhance equipment performance by installing modifications, making adjustments and recommending improvements.
  • Responsible for electrical, plumbing and other miscellaneous facility repairs.
  • Set up and maintain a repair, inspection and adjustments work order program.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, resolve personnel grievances and discharge staff in coordination with human resources.
  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and attaining all facility permits.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Education & Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • Preferred: BS in Engineering or related discipline and/or equivalent experience. 

  • 3 – 5 years of maintenance and project management experience. Supervisory or management experienced preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: 

 

  • Ability to write detailed reports and correspondences. 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings. 

  • Proven ability in choosing appropriate course of action while considering related costs and benefits. 

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while remaining productive at all times. 

  • Ability to stay positive and calm in difficult and/or trying circumstances. 

  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess team-based problem solving skills. 

  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team and organizational goals. 

  • Ability to handle a fast paced deadline orientated environment with multiple rapidly changing priorities. 

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment by identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 

  • Must have demonstrably strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. 

  • Ability to effectively interact and work well with all levels of personnel/departments with the utmost professionalism 

  • Proven track record of performing and providing technical training and development to staff 

  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, maintenance management systems. 

  • Previous supervisory experience of a maintenance team. 

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Light to moderate physical effort regularly required. 

  • Heavy physical effort occasionally required. 

  • May be trained and required to operate a forklift. 

  • Regularly involves standing, talking or listening, and the use of hands and fingers. 

  • Regularly involves going up and down stairs or ladders. 

  • Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing and walking. 

  • Frequently involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing. 

  • Frequently involves lifting up to 50lbs. 

 

Typical Environmental Conditions 

 

  • Works in a powder processing manufacturing facility with moderate noise. 

  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e. production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic). 

  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals. 

  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock. 

  • May be exposed to ingredients that may cause allergic reactions and may be exposed to various allergen ingredients. 

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
